This project began as a term-long experiment in character design, style, and concept realization. Each week, my advanced digital drawing class was given a short story podcast as a prompt, which we were tasked with responding to with a fully realized digital illustration. I elected to respond to each of these prompts with the same original character, Newton. In doing so, I created a sort of gradually developing mythos around the character. Newton’s only quest may be to find a grape slushy long after apocalyptic events, but each illustration revealed a little more about that journey and the character’s personality.
It’s my hope to one day return to the project, perhaps in the form of a graphic novel or animated short. This guy’s got a story to tell.
